Accessing the PurpleNet Wireless Network on Windows XP

The movie below will walk you through the steps of accessing the PurpleNet campus wireless network on a computer running Microsoft Windows. Use the playback controls at the bottom to rewind or pause at any time to review the steps. Scroll past the movie for a text list of the steps involved. We also have separate instructions for users running MacOS X.

  1. In the Control Panel, open Network Connections.

  2. Right click on the Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.

  3. In the window that appears, select the Wireless Networks tab, and click the Add button near the bottom of the window.

  4. A new window will open. Enter PurpleNet in the Network Name (SSID) field.

  5. Click the Authentication tab and verify that there is a check mark next to Enable 802.1x authentication (which may be grayed out).

  6. In the same window, change the EAP Type to Protected EAP (PEAP) and click the Properties button.

  7. Check the Enable Fast Reconnect, click Configure and uncheck the Automatically use my Windows logon name... box and click OK until you are back to the Network Connections window (four times).

  8. Right click on the Wireless Network Connection and select View Available Wireless Networks.

  9. Select PurpleNet and click the Connect button.

  10. Click the bubble at the bottom of the screen that asks for credentials for PurpleNet when it appears.

  11. Enter your ACENET ID and password with ACENET as the domain.
