  2. How do I access my departmental/organizational web account from on campus?

    • If you are using windows you have two options:

      1. Map a network drive. Do this by first right-clicking on My Computer. A menu should pop-up next to your mouse cursor. Within that pop-up menu select "Map Network Drive". A new window will open with options for mapping a network drive. First, be sure not to change the "Drive" option. Your computer will automatically select the next available drive letter for you to use. Second, in the space for "Folder" or "Path" type in the following:

        \\uewww2\nameofwebaccount

'\\uewww2\' = server to connect to; 'nameofwebaccount\' = share name of web account to connect to - for example: \\uewww2\art\

If you wish to have this mapped drive reconnect whenever you logon to your computer, check the box next to "Reconnect at logon." This will connect you to the UEWWW2 server every time you logon to your computer. Once you click the "Finish" button, your computer will automatically be mapped to the UEWWW2 server and a new window should open listing all the contents of the web account you connected to (if you have access.)

      2. Use the RUN command box. Click START, then select RUN. Type in the following into the box:

        \\uewww2\nameofwebaccount\

'\\uewww2\' = server to connect to; 'nameofwebaccount\' = share name of web account to connect to - for example: \\uewww2\art\

Click OK. A new window should open listing all the contents of the web account you connected to (if you have access.)

    • If you are using a Macintosh, and depending on which MacOS you are using, you may have two options:

      1. For users with MacOS 9 or earlier you will need to FTP your files to and from your web account on UEWWW2. To do this specify the HOST in your FTP program as "www2.evansville.edu". Your ACENET ID and Password will provide you with access to your web account. However, you'll need to preface your user id with "acenet\", like this: acenet\aa01. Once connected you will need to find your web account within the directory listing of all web accounts.

      2. If you are using MacOS 10 you can connect via FTP (per instructions above) or you can directly connect to your web account like Windows users. To do this, from the desktop, select "Connect to Server" from under the "Go" menu option at the top of the screen. In the new window that pops up, type in the following into the "Address:" field at the bottom of the window:

        smb://uewww2/nameofwebaccount/

        For example: smb://uewww2/art/

Press the "Connect" button or hit the RETURN key. You will then be prompted to log on, do so with your acenet id and password. (Note: You do not need to preface your user id with "acenet\".) Once connected you will see a new window listing all web accounts in that directory. Find your folder and if you wish, create and alias of it to put on your desktop for quicker access.

How do I access my departmental/organizational web account from off campus?

If you are not connected to the EVANSVILLE.EDU domain (ACENET), you will need to use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to transfer files back and forth form your web account.

    • To use FTP with Windows 2000 or Windows XP: The easiest way is to use the RUN command box under the START menu. Type in "ftp://www2.evansville.edu/nameofwebaccount/" (for example: ftp://www2.evansville.edu/art/) and hit RETURN or click OK. You will then immediately be prompted to login. You will need to preface your user ID with "acenet\" (without quotes). Once connected you can access your files as you would on campus.

    • To use FTP with older versions of Windows, Macintosh computers, or other operating systems: You will need an FTP client or program like WSFTP for Windows or FETCH for Macintosh. The HOST will be: "www2.evansville.edu" (without quotes). For USER ID, you will need to preface your UE user ID with "acenet\" (without quotes). Then just provide your password and hit RETURN or click CONNECT or OK (depending on which platform you're using). Once connected, you will then need to locate your web account (directory) in the listing that is provided. Open your directory to begin transferring files back and forth.

NOTE: In some instances you may need to specify the path to the directory you are accessing.
